San Luis Valley Antique Iron Club News Summer 2010

Several members attended the National Western Stock Show in January including Jim Clare displaying his Farmall Cub.  We had a fun pull out at our track on June 5 after a previous work day to make some repairs and get everything up and running.  The garden tractor sled was also used and worked correctly.

On June 18 we were invited to set up and show our equipment at Montez park in Monte Vista for the Ride the Rockies event and the National Potato Council summer meeting.  Over 2000 bicyclists came through and stopped for refreshments and food and many enjoyed our displays.  The Council people also had a BBQ at Roger Mix's that evening.  Many thanks to members who brought their tractors and potato equipment to display and those who helped man our booth all day. Those showing were Jim Clare, Bob Myers, Truman Price, Lewis Entz, Tom Scarlett, Triple M Farms, Daryl Booker and Larry and Jorie Scott.  Jim Clare and Doug Davie brought our JD pedal tractor and many raffle tickets were sold.  We had a beautiful day, good food, and lots of yakkity yakkin!

Congrats to our newest member Ken Young.

Future newsletters will update on continued club activities.

Don't forget the car show at Cole Park in Alamosa on Saturday, September 4.Our club has been participating in this event since 2006.

We are making homemade ice cream again and could use all the help we can get.  Our plan is to make 6 batches this year, the most ever, since we always have a long line still waiting after we run out every year.  Please plan to bring any of your restored tractors and/or equipment to help us put on a terrific display.  We have been assigned our own area and you can bring your tractors any time.  There will be hundreds of cars, pickups and trucks on display and plenty of good food all day.  Our trailer/booth will have shade and lots of chairs.  We will finalize our raffle ticket sales and have the drawing near the close of the event.  See ya there!

San Luis Valley Antique Iron News Spring 2010

The SLVAIC had their work day and fun pull at the new track between Monte Vista and Alamosa on April the 24th. There were several of the members who showed up to help get the track ready to go and cleaned up. Thanks to Lewis Entz as he was the runner for the day getting various items to get different task done.

Both sleds were set up and used later in the day for tractor and garden tractor pulling. Truman Price, Jim Clare, Daryl Booker, Tom Scarlett all had tractors to pull and Jim Clare, Myron Smith and Tom Scarlett had garden tractors to pull. The day was a fun day with everyone having fun and some pulling along with it. Several of the members took home some projects to finish working on for the roller packer and other items to get done for our next event.

Speaking of the next event, mark your calendar for a tentative pull on June the 5th. It will be decided for sure at our next monthly meeting on June the 2nd.

Also the Early Iron Club is having their 30th celebration at Cole Park in Alamosa on September the 4th. Once again we have been invited for this event and would like for as many of our club members as possible to show up at this event. Once again mark your calendar and don’t miss this event. It promises to be a grand gala and there will be homemade ice cream along with our drawing for the peddle tractor our club will have as a fund raiser. We will be getting tickets out to our members in the next month or so to start to sell.

The Colorado Potato Council is hosting the national meeting here in Monte Vista and would like for our club members to bring our tractors and equipment to the event. It will be at the park next to or north of the CPAC office in Monte Vista on June the 18th. This will be a great time to show off some of our tractors and equipment to people from outside the valley. If you can attend let Ed Weiscamp know as he is in charge of the set up and attendance for this event.

If you are a SLVAIC member who wants to be more involved with the club, one of the best things to do is work at it a little harder. Get to the general meetings which are at the Monte Vista Coop the 1st Wednesday of the month along with the board meetings which are 15 minutes before he regular meeting. 7:30 PM summer months. Come out for a work day; call a board member to see what you can do for the club. Lets us know your interest and just come out and say hello or shake a hand and get acquainted. Visit www.slvaic.comfor more info on the club.
